Braces For children

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that your child schedule a visit to the orthodontist at 7 or 8 years old. When we see patients at this age we are able to spot serious problems that would benefit from early treatment. Early treatment allows your Dr Young to correct and guide your child’s eruption of permanent teeth and guide your child’s jaw to a better growth pattern. We are able to create extra space for crowded teeth which may help to avoid the need for extractions later in life. We can also correct thumb sucking habits and minor speech problems caused by a tongue thrust or thumb sucking habit.

Some of the few things to watch for at this early stage includes crowded, misplaced or even missing teeth. Also, if your child has difficulty chewing or biting, if they are a mouth breather, do they have thumb sucking habit that they can’t stop, or if their jaws have a popping sound, all these things may indicate that your child needs to be seen for a free consultation by Dr Young.

Braces For teens

Braces are cooler than many teens may think. In fact, braces come in an assortment of styles, materials, shapes and colors. This makes life with braces much more fun, easier, comfortable, and more stylish than ever before. The several treatment options to choose from include traditional silver metal, tooth colored ceramic, invisible braces and clear aligner trays. Just ask our staff about the different options available.

Treatment times vary with each individual, and depending on how quickly your body responds and how much work is needed you may be in and out of braces in no time. Each treatment plan is designed to give you the show-stopping smile you desire.

Braces are usually placed once all the permanent teeth have erupted. This is usually between 11 and 12 years of age. If you have a teenager then they are probably the perfect age to correct any malocclusions.
